Microsoft is giving away Windows 10 for free and you can upgrade your PC to Windows 10 if you are already running a Windows 7 or Windows 8 on your PC. Windows 10 though fast and snappy than its previous versions of windows, it comes with a lot of apps preloaded.

Some of these apps you may never use and if you leave them turned on, they can suck up your bandwidth which will make some users unhappy. Windows 10 comes with different apps built-in depending on which Edition or version of Windows 10 you are using.

There are some apps which opens same kind of file and its unnecessary to keep those apps installed, only one app is enough to serve the purpose. So if you are someone like me who don’t want to see the apps you never use in the start screen or if you don’t want them anyway, you can follow this guide to remove them from your Windows 10.

Removing apps with an uninstall option

So if you open start menu, you may find some apps which can be installed directly. You need to right click on it and select uninstall.

If you don’t find such apps which don’t gives you an option to uninstall, you can follow the guide below to uninstall them.

Removing Default Apps For Current Single User

Yes, this method allows you to remove built-in apps from current account. If you will create a new account or you will login through another account you can find these apps still there.

So, if you just want to remove these apps from your account only and let apps stay it in the original image, you can follow this guide.

  1. Go to search and type PowerShell, right click on it and run it as administrator.

  2. Now you need to type some commands to uninstall apps one by one.

Here are some that commands to uninstall Windows 10 preloaded apps:

Get-AppxPackage *zune* | Remove-AppxPackage

Copy any of the command and then paste it in the PowerShell by clicking right mouse button. Hit Enter to execute.

If you get any error don’t worry, just reboot your system and the app will be removed successfully.

Removing Default Apps Permanently For All User

This method will allow you remove all the built-in apps from the Windows image itself. These apps will never appear again even if you create a new account or login through another account. Make sure you follow the steps exactly as mentioned to avoid any complications.

Caution: This method will remove the apps completely and you won’t be able to get it back by running any command. Either  you have to download the apps from windows store or follow this guide to recover all default apps.

  • First we need to get the PackageName of each apps installed. When you Run this command you will get a list of apps installed with their associated PackageName.
  • Go to start, search for PowerShell, run it as Administrator.
  • Now execute this command to get PackageName of the preinstalled apps.
    DISM /Online /Get-ProvisionedAppxPackages | select-string Packagename

    Copy this code and right click to paste the code in PowerShell. Now hit enter to Execute.

  • Once you get the list of apps with their ID, copy paste this list in your notepad.

  • Now use this command to remove the app.
    DISM /Online /Remove-ProvisionedAppxPackage /PackageName:$Package
  • Copy this command and replace the “$Package” with the associated id of the app you want to remove. This ID can be found on the list you just copied in your notepad. Like this

  • Now run this command to remove the app, you need to repeat this step for each app that you want to be deleted.

In case you don’t have PoweShell Installed in your system, follow this method to install it.

  • Go to search and type Windows Feature.
  • Now open Windows Feature Turn On or Off
  • Scroll down until you find PoweShell, check mark the PowerShell.
  • Click on OK, then reboot!
